Light Bulb Buyer's Guide

Due to Federal Legislation between 2012 and 2014, the standard 40, 60, 75, and 100-watt incandescent light bulbs can no longer be manufactured. You are not required to throw out your existing bulbs. Moving forward, you'll choose from better technology like halogen, CFL, and LED options.

Step 1: Choose the Right Shape and Base

Step 2: Consider Your Energy Efficient Options

What Is CRI?

Color Rendering Index is the ability of a lightbulb to show the colors of objects accurately on a scale of 0 to 100. As a general rule, "the higher the better." Lightbulbs with high CRI (80 - 100) tend to make people and objects look better than lightbulbs with lower CRI.

What Are Lumens?

Lumens are the measurement of light output from a light bulb (brightness or luminosity). Lumen per Watt is an expression of efficiency — how many lumens a light bulb emits per watt of energy used. (Similarly to miles per gallon, higher is better.)

What Is Color Temperature?

Color temperature is a measure of the lightbulb's color tone when illuminated, and is measured in degrees Kelvin.
